The new TSA rules for traveling with CPAP took effect August 4,2007.
Cpap is now treated like a laptop computer and must be removed from your suitcase to be checked by the TSA officers. This is a major inconvience for users of cpap but especially the frequent business traveler who already has to deal with laptops shoes etc and cannot check his cpap due to time constraints.
It is never a good idea to check cpap as lost luggage is a frequent occurence. Oral appliances that treat sleep apnea without the machine, the hoses or the masks are much easier for travel. The appliace that are equal to cpap for most patients easily fit in a shirt pocket or purse and are not subject to problematic searches
