A new article published today in Neurology Advisor "Assessing the Overlapping Brain Pathologies in Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Alzheimer Disease" emphasizes another reason why sleep apnea treatment is important. According to the article "In a study of autopsied brain tissue, increased OSA severity was linked to greater concentrations of amyloid beta (Aβ) aggregates. OSA also predicted neurofibrillary tangle (NFT) burden in the hippocampus, another key feature of Alzheimer disease.
